Two Local Holes Featured in Calendar

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

Two holes from Oconee County Disc Golf courses will be featured as part of the Innova Disc Golf 2011 Calendar.  Hole 18 at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek will be the cover picture of the new calendar and the April 2011 picture is of 14 year-old Joseph Haney throwing on hole one at Sertoma Field in Walhalla.

Several pictures of Disc Golf holes in the upstate were submitted for the contest.  Each photo will give the course name and location of the picture, giving GODG and the hole Disc Golf scene in Oconee County a great opportunity to showcase their courses to players across the world.

Hopefully we’ll have some calendars to sell at the Golden Corner Chainsaw Classic in November.

Club Meeting 9-29-10

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Below are the minutes from our recent meeting.

9-26-10 GODG meeting

Attendees: Josh Burgess, Layla Burgess, Mike Wierda, Aaron Evans, Adam Wright, Luke Reiser, Maria Stubbs.

Topics/Whos on the job:

Tax form Strange W9 form from the county has arrived at the club PO Box and we as a whole don’t know what to do with it.  Adam, is contacting a CPA about it to see what he says.  Layla or Maria is calling the county about the form and what it is for.

18 baskets We as a club want to get the baskets that were purchased by the City of Seneca a year ago shipped and in the ground.  We had 3 proposed ideas for what to do w/ the baskets

  1. put them in the ground on the “Seneca gold” course
  2. put them in the ground at some other proposed locations
  3. put them in the ground partially in the Seneca gold course, partially in the ball field areas at Shaver Rec, and partially in the alt pin placements on the original course.

As a club we have decided to marry ideas 1 & 3.  Adam is talking to the mayor to get the basked shipped … now.  Josh will talk to Rick Laycey about  baskets in the ball field.  The option of filling alt pin placements on the current course was pushed to old business and will be taken up at a future meeting.

Black Jax Sports order The BJS order is a go.  From BJS we will be ordering light up putters, mid range, and drivers approximately 10 of each.  With this purchase BJS has agreed to give us pod lights, which we will use at tee pad, basket, and directional markers for night golf.  Mike will continue to work w/ BJS and will place the order in the immediate future.  As a club we still need to decide if we the club will keep the light up discs and rent them out at night rounds or put them into the club stock and sell them.  This is old business and will be brought up at a future meeting.

Club logo We as a club are working on coming up w/a new club logo.  Maria has taken the lead on this.  Everyone is invited and encouraged to design a logo. Logos when finalized need to be simple 1-3 color designs w/o shading.   All logo ideas need to be completed and to Maria (mariastubbsart@gmail.com) by October 28th.

Restocking the club Layla has agreed to place an order w/ Innova and Discraft to restock the club.  For the Discraft order it has been requested that we (the ones who want Discraft) put together the wish list and give it to Layla.  She will then place the order.

Walhalla disc doubles Luke proposed a new style of double.  A disc doubles where players are matched according to their skill level e.g.  pros play w/ rec (i.e., those who are good are paired w/ those who are not).  The payout is in DX discs and approximately 1/2 of the field gets paid out every week.  The club unanimously supported this idea and Luke will be organizing and starting this in the near-ish future.

Club stock and tournaments It was discussed and decided that if TDs use the club stock in the tournaments they have the responsibility to make sure the club is restocked.

Next meeting The club will have a second meeting on Oct. 29 at 7pm at Peppinos in Seneca.

Cheers Mike Wierda

Chattooga Belle Farm

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Friday the GODG design team will finalize the course layout at the newest course in Oconee County at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek.  We’ve been working over the past couple of weeks on the design and are close to having something finalized. The goal on Friday is to have a plan to present the owner of the property.

If you would like to join us and help in the design process you need to arrive to the property between 3:30 and 4:00 on Friday. From Westminster, take Highway 76 toward Clayton, GA. Damascus Church Road is just past the Long Creek General Store. Turn left on Damascus Church Road. The farm is a half mile from Highway 76. The Long Creek Fire Department is on the corner of Highway 76 and Damascus Church Road.

Chattooga Belle Farm is 20 minutes from Clayton, GA; 20 minutes from Westminster and 25 minutes from Walhalla.
